Lyman Frank Baum (1856-1919), in addition to being the author of a vast work of fiction, including fantasy novels and various genres, poetry, plays and screenplays, was the creator of one of the most celebrated stories children's literature of the twentieth century: The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (1900), about which he wrote thirteen books. It is a fascinating history readed for several generations, which universe populated by endearing characters and unique landscapes has been the inspiration for countless books, movies, poems and songs, becoming part of the culture universal. Like his character the Wizard, the American writer had a great fascination for creating illusions through contraptions of theatre and silent film. Either as actor, director, producer, set designer, always struggled to bring his imaginary to scene, so much so that over the years he went from being a young wealthy businessman to a mature writer on the verge of bankruptcy whose creative restlessness, which resulted several failures, let him enjoy very little of his success.
